January 2011
Do you remember the day
They spent in the rain?
It was almost summer,
And it smelled like champaign.
They danced for hours
In the cool downpour.
Screaming to the sky,
What they lived for.
And even the thunder
Couldn’t make them quit.
They were soaked through,
Dripping on the carpet.
We just toweled them off,
By then they were beat.
Here’s to the day,
They danced in the street.
My world has changed,
There’s a scar on my heart.
Yes, you can go now
You’ve done your part.
I wrote the end of our story
Now I’m starting my own,
And for once the end
Maybe isn’t unknown.
While I’m scrawling my words,
You’re making your rounds.
I try to capture details,
Like the way it sounds
When rain hits the pavement,
And a candle’s blown out.
Kind of like I was,
But I’m burning now.
Let’s be friends.
